Ancient Migration

The mighty Platte River stretches from one end of Nebraska to the other. Each year in March the largest assemblage of cranes in the world gathers near Grand Island, NE in the heart of the Great Plains central fly way. Nearly half a million of these magnificent yet archaic creatures descend from the skies coming from Mexico, Central America, Texas landing on the wetlands of the river. They spend collectively about six weeks resting and eating before heading north to their summer nesting grounds in Alaska or Canada.
